Family Vacations: An Imaginative Adventure

Family summer vacations are long-awaited events. Maybe yours was already planned a long time ago, or maybe you have not decided yet. In the latter, you have multiple choices: the classic trip to the United States, take a plan to an exotique destination or even discovering the overlooked regions of Quebec. We gave ourselves the mission to help you discover the hidden gems in the province of Quebec. More importantly, we want you to steer away from the tourist traps and live the adventure of a lifetime with your family. Yes, you read correctly: an adventure.

Who is Coming Along For the Ride to Centre-du-Québec?

We planned a trip that will bring you in hidden territories. This 4-day journey that you can only imagine takes place in Becancour, in the region of Trois-Rivieres.

Day 1: A Family Day at the Hostel

The lodging we recommend is the Auberge Godefroy. Why? Upon their arrival, your kids will believe they have entered a castle! The grandiose fountain that awaits you at the entrance, the architecture of the building, the massive fireplace and the majestic curtains give an impressive royal look. We recommend you enjoy the first day of your vacation directly at the hostel. An indoor and outdoor pool, lounge chairs for adults to rest and a playroom equipped with a baby-foot table which kids and adults can face-off in a duel, are available for you and your family to enjoy. You would like to take a look at our vacation packages for the whole family?

Day 2: Enjoy a Walk Down the Gnome Trail

Have  you ever heard of the gnome park? An entire village of elves and uniquely coloured houses can be found in Godefroy’s Ecological Park. Here’s a challenge that well get the kids excited and busy: find the gnome families that escaped and settled elsewhere than in their unique park.

The activity’s sole and unique purpose is to have fun and enjoy a walk in the children’s imaginary universe. Accompany them in their mystical fantasy even if your imaginative skills got a little rusty over the years. There is nothing better for your children than to have their parents escape with them and chase around families of gnomes in their houses nested in the trunks of the trees.

Day 3: Centre de la Biodiversité du Québec with Your Family

The “Centre de la biodiversité du Québec” is only 6 minutes away by car from the hostel and offers families an immersive experience in different environments. Among the possibilities you can travel back in time to the return of the prehistoric giants, a journey to the depths of the Saint-Laurent and a visit of the inner bailey.

Retour des Géants de la Préhistoire

This visit allows families to step into the shoes of an archeologist for a couple of hours. In fact, the visit includes a visit inside a cave of cavemen as well as the tour of the giant prehistoric mammals. This exhibit lets you come face to face with a mammoth and other species as old as they are impressive. Last but not least, your children will have the opportunity to listen to the imitation of dinosaur sounds and examine fossils!

Journey at the Bottom of the Saint-Laurent

The journey to the bottom of the Saint-Laurent is a 360-degree projection combined with a visit to the aquarium. You and children will be able to explore the river from another perspective. Experts will explain to you the effects of tides and accompany you as you discover the aquatic wildlife typically found in the Saint-Laurent River. A turtle can also be found in the aquarium, a fascinating creature especially for the children.

Day 4: Let's Make Soap with the Kids!

After riding only 4 minutes from the hostel you will come across the “maison de Bibi”. You will have the opportunity to participate in a workshop on creating glycerin-based soap. It lasts about 45 minutes and the kids will have the pleasure to bring home the soap they made! It is important to note that a reservation must be made to participate in this workshop. The maison de Bibi is a great way to start the day as it also has a coffee shop and a breakfast restaurant with a delicious menu, ideal for the whole family.

To the Museum!

A trip to the museum is a classic stop during family vacations. Let's continue this tradition by finishing the day at the Boréalis museum, a museum about paper. This museum can be found 20 minutes away from the Auberge Godefroy by car.  What can be interesting are the diverse family activities that are offered. For example, an activity specifically for kids called My first visit to the museum takes every Saturday of the summer.

Children from 3 to 5 years old can help solve an enigma concerning the paper machine. Furthermore, an area dedicated for children from 0 to 8 years-old offers the option to relax in a reading corner, to play in physical games and even draw on a mural.
